The Renaissance Center
At 727 feet, the main tower of the Renaissance Center — the Detroit Marriott — is the tallest building in Detroit and one of the most recognizable riverfront skylines in the country. The RenCen is not a single tower but seven interconnected glass buildings, developed at a cost of $350 million, the largest privately financed development project in the country at the time it began opening in 1976. When its main hotel tower was completed in 1977, it held the title of tallest hotel skyscraper in the world. It anchors the top of our model as the tallest and most photographed element of Detroit's real skyline.
The Guardian Building
Completed in 1929 at 496 feet and 40 stories, the Guardian Building is an Art Deco masterpiece still in daily use as an office building and widely considered one of the finest examples of the style anywhere in the United States. Its colorful, ornately tiled lobby and its distinctive orange-and-cream exterior make it instantly recognizable against the newer glass towers downtown, and its inclusion on the model anchors the skyline in Detroit's pre-war architectural golden age rather than only its 1970s riverfront redevelopment.
Why These Two, Together
The Renaissance Center represents Detroit's 1970s bet on its own downtown — a massive, privately funded redevelopment built during a genuinely difficult period for the city, meant to signal confidence in a comeback. The Guardian Building represents an earlier era entirely, the late-1920s architectural ambition that predates the auto industry's mid-century peak. Together they show a skyline shaped by two very different moments of civic confidence, decades apart.

Each Detroit skyline sculpture is 3D-printed in matte black with brushed gold lettering reading DETROIT on the base, hand-finished, and shipped within three to five business days.
